Job Description

📍 Location & Basics

  • Site: Mather Air Force Base (Mather AFB), California
  • Agency: Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Job Type: Full‑time, permanent staff physician position

💰 Salary & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $261,000 to $300,000 per year
  • Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Up to $200,000 for eligible candidates
  • Annual performance bonuses and regular salary growth
  • Paid Time Off: Approximately 50–55 days per year (26 annual leave days, 13 sick leave days, 11 federal holidays, plus roughly 5 days CME leave)
  • CME Allowance: Up to $1,000 annually
  • Retirement: Classic federal pension vesting after 5 years + 401(k) with up to 5% agency match
  • Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long-term care; portability into retirement
  • Malpractice Liability: Covered by the VHA, including tail protection

👩‍⚕️ Role & Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Chief of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service
  • Analyzes surgical, cytological, and autopsy specimens to diagnose disease and advise treatment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board certification or fellowship in Hematopathology
  • Experience in Cytopathology is preferred, though not required
