TheLoma Linda VAhas an opening for an energetic, driven, and compassionate Physician (Inpatient Psychiatry).
Facility Details: VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is actively seeking a full-time physician for inpatient psychiatry. Candidates must be residency trained in Psychiatry and be Board Certified/Board Eligible with Board Certification preferred. The successful candidate will work closely with our inpatient care teams in the assessment and treatment of General Psychiatric disorders.
The VA Loma Linda Healthcare system is affiliated with Loma Linda University Health Medical School. Teaching of medical students, residents and fellows is an integral part of the position. VA Loma Linda also has academic affiliations with the University of California-Riverside Campus as well. The position provides an outstanding opportunity for individuals committed to an academic career in clinical care, teaching and research and requires excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to team building.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Provides a full range of psychiatric services, including assessment and treatment of General Psychiatric disorders.
- Consults with clinical staff on a wide variety of patient care issues
- Conducts treatment planning and refers to various programs within the Mental Health Service and provides return appointments for follow-up.
- Uses validated suicide screening tools to assess safety (danger to self, others, grave disability), and determine the need for psychiatric hospitalization. Coordination of patient care with Medical/ED staff and Mental Health Services (including Psychiatric Inpatient Unit)
- Completes consultations in a timely manner, closes clinical encounters, and writes return to clinic orders.
- Returns patient phone calls and provides guidance to patients on treatment options.
- Represents the Mental Health Service on facility committees
- Provide training and guidance to General Psychiatry Residents, as well as medical students
- Serves as a consultant to staff and trainees and assists in their formulation of the appropriate treatment plan regarding their patients.
- Uses VA Video Connect (VVC) for clinical visits when required and supports all staff in completing visits using VVC and other telehealth modalities, as well as responding to messages in My HealtheVet
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
