Academic Psychiatrist (Adult) - SLUCare Physician Group - Saint Louis University School of Medicine

SLUCare Physician Group, the academic practice of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Adult Psychiatrist to join its academic psychiatry faculty. This position is primarily outpatient-based with opportunities for teaching, clinical supervision, and academic involvement within a collaborative, mission-driven department.

Outpatient Clinic Schedule:

  • New Patient Appointments:
    60 minutes
  • Follow-Up Appointments:
    30 minutes
  • Clinic Setting:
    Faculty outpatient psychiatry clinic
    Multidisciplinary team environment (residents, fellows, psychologists, social work)
  • Patient Population:
    Adult psychiatry (18+)
    Mix of mood disorders, anxiety, psychotic disorders, and complex psychiatric presentations

Clinical Effort Distribution:

  • Outpatient Psychiatry: 100%
  • Inpatient Psychiatry: 0% (no dedicated inpatient service)

(Note: Occasional inpatient consults may occur while on call, but there is no routine inpatient attending service.)

Call Schedule:

  • Rotating call:
    One night every 2–3 weeks
    Call rotation includes approximately 15 faculty members
  • Facilities Covered:
    Saint Louis University Hospital (SLUH)

Call Description:

  • Home calls with phone triage and clinical decision making
  • Psychiatric consultations and urgent evaluations as needed
  • Resident support and supervision during call coverage

Call Intensity & Expectations:

  • Call volume is generally manageable and infrequent
  • Most calls involve:

  • Phone consultations
  • Guidance to residents
  • Occasional in-person evaluation if clinically necessary

  • The service is well supported by residents and hospital staff

Weekend Call Expectations:

  • While on weekend call, faculty can expect:

  • Minimal on-site time
  • Typically, 1–3 hours total per day, depending on consult volume
  • Many weekends may require no in-person presence at all

Academic Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and supervision of psychiatry residents and medical students
  • Participation in academic conferences, grand rounds, and educational activities
  • Opportunities for scholarly activity and academic advancement
  • Faculty appointment at Saint Louis University School of Medicine (rank commensurate with experience)

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
  • Eligible for Missouri medical licensure
  • Commitment to academic medicine and education
