The Department of Internal Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, in partnership with the SSM Health Academic Division, invites applications for the position of Division Director of Rheumatology. This is a prominent leadership opportunity for a collaborative and visionary academic physician to lead one of the Midwest's most established and respected rheumatology programs.

About the Division
The Department of Internal Medicine is the largest and most dynamic departments at Saint Louis University, supporting a broad portfolio of clinical, educational, and research programs.
The Division of Rheumatology provides comprehensive care for adult patients with a wide spectrum of conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and other complex autoimmune and connective tissue disorders.
The program is among the most well-established in the Midwest, serving over 7,500 patients annually. Clinical care is supported by a dedicated rheumatology laboratory offering advanced immunologic testing.
Education and Training
The Division sponsors an ACGME-accredited fellowship program in rheumatology, consistently ranked among the top 25 nationally. Fellows benefit from robust clinical exposure in high-volume outpatient settings and provide inpatient consultation at:

Research and Scholarship
The Division maintains a strong and growing research portfolio. Faculty are actively engaged in multicenter collaborations, national registries, and clinical trials, reflecting a sustained commitment to advancing translational research and scientific discovery.
Leadership Role
The Division Director will provide strategic, operational, and academic leadership across the Division's tripartite mission. Key responsibilities include:
- Advancing clinical excellence and program growth
- Recruiting, developing, and mentoring faculty
- Strengthening fellowship training programs
- Promoting interdisciplinary collaboration across SLU, SLUCare, and SSM Health
- Expanding research initiatives and scholarly productivity
- Elevating the Division's regional and national reputation
Qualifications
Candidates must:
- Hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD
- Be board-certified or board-eligible in Rheumatology
- Be eligible for Missouri medical licensure
