Overview

General Summary:

The APRN or PA-C, under the supervision of the Physician(s) who acts as the collaborative practitioner(s), is responsible for:

  • Performs physical examinations of patients; evaluation and treatment of illnesses related to hematology, oncology and bone marrow transplant; fundamental internal medicine as it pertains to the patients’ hematologic malignancy, i.e. diabetes mellitus, hypertension
  • Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, x-ray, etc.
  • Position entails managing/monitoring patients in the clinic, infusion center, and hospital settings
  • Monitors the patient’s course of treatment and makes appropriate referral to either a physician or specialist, as needed
  • Collaborates with physician supervisor and staff, as necessary to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff
  • Displays a caring and professional attitude at all times as well as maintaining personal and professional growth

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, and the public; Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Ability to provide quality customer service
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including call rotation, nights, weekends
  • Rounding required during the day and on weekends when on call
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced clinic with highly acute patients, APP will also be required to participate in inpatient rounding at AdventHealth Orlando
  • Ability to complete bone marrow biopsies, skin biopsies in both inpatient and outpatient settings, lumbar punctures, and IT Chemo (training will be provided)
  • DEA licensure to be obtained upon completion of orientation for prescribing of controlled substances as allowed per laws

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies
  • Experience as an APRN or PA-C in Hematology/Oncology (highly preferred)
  • Oncology nursing experience (highly preferred)

Required Licensure, Certification, and Registration:

  • Current, valid Florida APRN or PA license
  • ANCC, AANP, NCCPA (or equivalent) certification
  • BLS and ACLS required
