SSM Health Dean Medical Group is actively recruiting a full-time (1.0 FTE) Physician Assistant to join our Trauma Acute Care Service at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital, an ACS Level II Trauma Center, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Requirements:

  • Post-educational experience in a surgical specialty preferred; ideally within surgery/acute care and trauma settings
  • Will review new/recent graduates who have rotations in trauma or general surgery including first assist experience
  • Master's degree physician assistant with PA-C
  • ATLS/ACLS certification
  • Wisconsin-licensed physician assistant or ability to obtain
  • Wisconsin DEA or ability to obtain

Opportunity Highlights:

  • Physician Assistant will work primarily with Trauma and Acute Care Surgeons and the Trauma Medical Director
  • The primary focus of this position will be assisting in providing high-quality care to trauma and acute care patients with a small focus on outpatient trauma follow-up clinic
  • Trauma department schedule: part of a 24/7 program
  • No call and shifts will vary between daytime hours of 7a-7p and nights 7p-7a as well as weekend rotations (average 12-13 shifts per month once fully onboarded)
  • Hospital Privileges at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital, an ACS Level II Trauma Center

Essential responsibilities of this position include:

  • Evaluate patients, including performing history and physical examinations in the trauma bay, inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Responding to level I and level II trauma activations
  • Performing necessary invasive procedures as directed by the trauma surgeon
  • Performing secondary and tertiary trauma surveys
  • Ordering and interpreting of laboratory and imaging tests
  • Coordination of ancillary staff and consulting services
  • Participate in the trauma quality process improvement program
