NORTON CHILDREN’S CANCER INSTITUTE, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, and a part of Norton Children’s Medical Group, seeks a board-certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist with a focus on stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy. The selected candidate will demonstrate academic engagement, a commitment to teaching, and clinical excellence through fellowship training or practice experience caring for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation and other cellular therapies.

Candidates will be considered if they have clinical and research efforts focused on transplantation for malignant or nonmalignant conditions, treatment and prevention of transplant-related complications, gene therapy or other areas relevant to pediatric transplantation; or leadership or participation in clinical quality improvements focused on transplant quality metrics. The position includes a faculty appointment to the UofL School of Medicine.

The Norton Children’s Cancer Institute Hanna Catherine Evans Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant Program is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy. Our four transplant physicians perform approximately 10 to 15 transplants annually, including autologous, related allogeneic, haploidentical and alternative-donor transplants. A dedicated team of advanced practice providers, nurse clinicians and pharmacists help provide comprehensive care to transplant patients.

A well-equipped stem cell apheresis unit and bone marrow processing laboratory provide strong technical support. Physicians and patients benefit from our connection with active preclinical cellular therapy research laboratory, and a GMP cellular product manufacturing facility is in development.

About the Position 

  • Selected candidate will have advanced training or experience in bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy, and demonstrated experience with clinical or translational research initiatives
  • Support the transplant service line with shared inpatient, outpatient and call responsibilities
  • The opportunity to develop a clinical, translational or laboratory research program in a field relevant to stem cell transplantation
  • Training or experience in organizing collaborative clinical trials in transplantation and cellular therapy, or bringing novel cellular products to clinical use is highly valued
  • Teach and mentor medical students from UofL School of Medicine, as well as pediatric residents and hematology/oncology fellows
  • Qualified candidates should have a strong interest in mentoring and program development, and be academically productive
  • Selected candidate should be board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in pediatrics, board certified or board eligible for the pediatric hematology/oncology subspecialty, and have additional training or experience in stem cell transplantation
