Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital

Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (JHACH) in St. Petersburg, Florida has initiated a search for a surgical leader to assume the dual role of Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery. Both positions report directly to the Chair of Surgery.

The Vice Chair will play a key role in leading clinical affairs across multiple surgical subspecialties ---both employed and private practice--- based at numerous access locations and affiliates in the greater Tampa Bay region. This leader will be responsible for creating and executing goals in both operational and strategic lanes. An ability to effectively collaborate with administrative and executive leaders both intra- and extramurally is essential.

The Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery will be accountable for the scope, standards, and quality of the pediatric general surgery and trauma service line. The Division Chief will be responsible for the Pediatric Surgery business unit and, as importantly, will mentor faculty in this academic division in support of educational, research, and innovation goals.

The Department of Surgery at JHACH comprises ten divisions (pediatric surgery, thoracic surgery, plastic surgery, urology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology and pathology & laboratory medicine). It is the largest pediatric academic department of surgery on the west coast of Florida.

The Division of Pediatric Surgery provides a full spectrum of pediatric surgical care to the children of the Tampa Bay region and the West coast of Florida.  The 12 pediatric surgeons and ten APPs of the Division support key programs across a wide range of tertiary and quaternary care.  The Division is based at JHACH; but also covers the area’s largest academic teaching hospital as well as a local community hospital. The Division has a strong educational mission with ACGME-accredited fellowships in both Pediatric Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.  It is a training site for residents from two general surgery training programs and hosts other rotating learners. Two research fellows and a clinical research program support the activity of the Divisional members.

Qualifications include board certification by the American Board of Pediatric Surgery. This role is targeted to be a 0.7 clinical/0.3 administrative position. Candidates are eligible for an academic appointment commensurate with experience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

JHACH is 259-bed teaching hospital ranked by US News & World Report as a “Top 50 Children’s Hospital” and #1 Children’s Hospital in the state of Florida.  The institution is the home for specialized programs in congenital heart disease and transplantation, oncology and bone marrow transplantation, neonatal and MFM, neurosciences, trauma and injury prevention, esophageal/airway center, and the world’s only 15-bed ICU devoted to congenital diaphragmatic hernia patients.  JHACH will be opening a 56-bed satellite hospital in the fall of 2027 on its Wesley Chapel campus (approximately 50 miles from the St. Petersburg campus).

The Tampa-St. Petersburg area is centrally located to many of Florida's amenities, only minutes from the beautiful Gulf beaches, 90 miles from Orlando, and four hours from Miami.
