Penrose Hospital offers an accredited four-year training program in combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. The Pathology Residency Program is a unique community-based program located along the eastern edge of the Southern Rocky Mountains and base of Pikes Peak. Penrose-St. Francis Health Services consists of Penrose Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center. Training occurs almost exclusively at Penrose Hospital, the 364-bed anchor hospital of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, providing secondary and tertiary medical-surgical services and specializing in cancer care, cardiac care, emergency trauma care, and physical rehabilitation. The Penrose Cancer Center provides exposure to an increasing number of unusual cases seen in the Pathology Department. The Pathology Laboratory is located on the second floor of the hospital. The Department contains state-of-the-art equipment encompassing Flow Cytometry, an in-house Blood Bank Donor Center and Cytogenetics Laboratories. Modern facilities provide a pleasant work environment with dual resident rooms housing individual resident desks, computers and microscopes.
