Otolaryngology Residency Program · Hershey, PA
The Penn State Hershey Medical Center Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Residency Program offers superb, well-rounded subspecialty training. We rely on a strong didactic program, combined with dedicated teaching faculty who follow a graduated responsibility paradigm for residents over the five years of training. Residents operate and provide patient care under the guidance of faculty who tailor the experience based on individual resident abilities and clinical maturity. Inpatient clinical care is delivered for our adult patients at the 550-bed Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and pediatric patients at our freestanding Penn State Children's Hospital. Both on-campus and nearby off-campus outpatient clinics as well as an outpatient surgicenter serve to expand the clinical experience. The research program within the Department is well-developed and our residents are mentored in research endeavors through all five years. Our graduates typically have authored multiple publications and book chapters, as well as presented at regional, national and international meetings. All residents have a dedicated three-month research rotation during the PGY-3 year, but our program has also instituted a year-long research experience in the Institute of Personalized Medicine for interested and qualified individuals, occurring prior to the first clinic year. Opportunities for mission work are available for interested residents. Historically, the majority of our resident pursue fellowship training and academic positions, and have successful in obtaining premier fellowships in their chosen field. The Penn State Hershey Medical Center is located in beautiful and bucolic Central Pennsylvania, with many outdoors activities and good access to several major metropolitan regions.
