The four-year Radiation Oncology Residency at Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, is designed to prepare physicians for a career in radiation oncology. The objective of the residency is to educate and train physicians to be skillful in the practice of radiation oncology as well as caring and compassionate in the treatment of patients. After completing the Radiation Oncology Residency, physicians are ready for the demands of private practice, academic practice or a fellowship. In accordance with American Board of Radiology requirements for board eligibility, Mayo requires successful completion of a clinical year in the United States prior to commencing its four-year Radiation Oncology Residency. Matching to the specialty program includes a one-year Internal Medicine Preliminary Residency (PGY-1) available only for trainees who complete their residency training at Mayo Clinic's campus in Florida. The goal of the Internal Medicine Preliminary Residency is to provide a solid foundation for further training in anesthesiology, dermatology, neurology, radiation oncology and radiology advanced programs. The Internal Medicine Preliminary Residency is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Residents are included within the ACGME complement of the first year of the Internal Medicine Residency.
