Ophthalmology Residency Program · Salt Lake City, UT
Moran provides excellent didactic training, extensive surgical experience, research support, and outreach opportunities. An integrated intern year at Moran in ophthalmology and internal medicine means residents understand the system from the start and graduate exceptionally prepared. Three months in ophthalmology includes one half-day a week at a continuity clinic to follow a patient’s care. The program provides protected research time one-half day each week and at least one new resident is awarded $15,000 for research, which Moran matches each successive year. Each resident designs a quality improvement project. Moran has about 140,000 patient visits and 7,000 surgeries annually, giving residents a full range of clinical and surgical experiences. In three years, one Moran resident, on average, performs about 740 surgeries and procedures—more than 300 are cataract surgeries. Residents complete four-week rotations with Moran’s Global Outreach Division, and third-year residents can tailor three months of elective time to their interests.
