The Ohio State University Radiation Oncology Residency for Physicians offers a mentor-apprentice educational model in the radiation oncology clinic within The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center — Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. Our five-year program, beginning in PGY-2, provides three preparatory courses: clinical radiation oncology, radiation physics and radiation biology. The education component of training is supplemented with weekly chart rounds, cancer center grand rounds, a monthly journal club and various conferences. Our Department of Radiation Oncology has a complete spectrum of radiation therapy modalities, such as gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery, LINAC-based stereotactic radiosurgery and ample gynecologic and genitourinary brachytherapy. During residency, we allow up to one full year of dedicated research time for our residents in any path, from clinical trials research to basic science laboratory opportunities. In addition, the department will soon have a new proton radiation facility built for ultra-high speed, radiation treatment modalities.
