The University of Oklahoma / Dean McGee Eye Institute residency program offers top-tier, state-of-the-art ophthalmology education. Residents have the opportunity to work closely with over 30 clinical faculty representing all of the ophthalmic sub-specialties, as well as many independently-funded basic scientists in our resident-centric department. The residency program generates well-rounded ophthalmologists, approximately 2/3 of whom have gone on to competitive fellowship training opportunities with over a 90% match rate (see our website for specific details). Residents participate in varied clinical activities at OU Medical Center, OU Children’s Hospital, Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center Oklahoma City, and the Dean McGee Eye Institute, as well as a unique, funded, international opportunity in eSwatini. Our graduates have historically reached above the 90th percentile in surgical volume, with many residents completing more than 1000 total cases as primary surgeon. Over the past 20 years, 100% of our graduates have passed the Written Qualifying Exam successfully on their first attempt. We offer resident specific research grants, funding for presenting research at national conferences and a variety of other perks to support our residents.
