The Wake Forest Internal Medicine Residency Program is situated in a large cutting-edge academic medical center with a focus on high quality patient care, research, and educational innovations. The 885-bed hospital and network of ambulatory clinics provides primary care for patients in Winston-Salem, NC and the surrounding areas while serving as a tertiary care referral center for the region. Thus, residents have exposure to a wide range of pathologies for a well-rounded clinical training experience. The clinical curriculum combines training in ambulatory and inpatient general internal medicine with training in the core subspecialties of internal medicine. The didactic curriculum includes a mix of interactive conferences including morning report, grand rounds and dedicated academic half-days which cover internal medicine topics in a comprehensive fashion. The program provides a supportive, collegial environment for residents to grow as “pluripotent” internal medicine physicians, well-prepared for any career pathway in internal medicine.
