Our residency program provides a rigorous, comprehensive, surgical training experience designed to produce the highest caliber academic and clinical neurosurgeons. Our program also fosters a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment emanating from the collective talent and dedication of the residents and staff at Mayo Clinic. Emphasis is on training academic neurosurgeons for a career in academia or private practice. A resident will have a solid foundation in basic neuroscience and preparation for both written and oral neurosurgery board examinations, as well as opportunities for laboratory and clinical research alike, including the option to pursue an advanced degree in neuroscience and neurosurgery or clinical and translational research. Most importantly, the Mayo Clinic training program offers an unparalleled experience by combining a large volume of complex cases with a faculty of innovative, skilled, and sub-specialized neurosurgeons who are committed to our uniquely autonomous and education-oriented mentorship model.
