UC Irvine Dermatology has a vibrant educational program designed to teach dermatologic diagnosis and conventional and innovative therapies. The program is based in Irvine, but has major elements at Kaiser Permanente and the Long Beach Veterans Administration. Residents gain expertise in all areas of dermatology including systemic medications, phototherapy, immunobullous diseases, pigmentary disorders, pediatric dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, lasers and cutaneous oncology. Residents get extensive hands on experience in excisional surgery, Mohs surgery, complex closures, toxins and fillers and lasers. Residents rotate through the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (a National Cancer Institute designated center) and the Beckman Laser Institute.Residents are also involved in sophisticated research and clinical development programs.
