The Duke urologic surgery residency program provides a balance between patient care, teaching, and research in the areas of oncology, male infertility, sexual dysfunction, urolithiasis, reconstructive urology, female urology, pediatric urology, and minimally invasive surgery. Thorough training in these urologic sub-specialties is made possible by the tremendous volume and variety of cases available at this nationally-acclaimed university and its affiliated institutions. Training consists of structured weekly teaching conferences, independent responsibility, and learning through observation, direct supervision, and hands-on experience. The Duke Urology residency is a six-year training program with a full year dedicated for research. During this one year “Surgeon Scientist Fellowship”, residents work with world-renowned faculty in each subspecialty to expand their knowledge base. Opportunities are made available for advanced degrees and residents are encouraged to present their groundbreaking research in national and international meetings.
