The Ohio State University General Surgery Program offers unique opportunities for seven trainees to develop into successful leaders in surgery. The Department of Surgery provides top-tier depth and breadth, with more than 18,000 cases annually, a #8 rank in NIH research funding; and access to more than 1,400 beds, 71 operating theaters and seven hospitals. A robust surgical innovations program helps trainees become comfortable with advanced endoscopic, endovascular, minimally invasive and robotics surgery using the da Vinci® platform. Residents complete one to three years of research with flexibility to earn a PhD or Master of Medical Science, Public Health or Business Administration, all while exploring individual topics of interest from cancer therapeutics and engineered vascular tissues to health services, economics and outcomes research. Additionally, our strong Global Health curriculum provides enriching rotations in varied environments, from high to low income and those experiencing resource limitation, so that residents can choose the experience that best fits their educational and career goals.
