The Radiation Oncology Residency at MD Anderson is designed to provide clinical training and research experience for the future leaders of radiation oncology. The four-year program hones training in clinical radiotherapy, radiation physics, radiobiology, dosimetry, and research; and is designed to develop clinical competence in the overall management of patients treated with radiation. Residents participate in the total radiotherapeutic management of patients seen by the supervising faculty attending physician. Training is also provided through observation and direct participation in surgical, chemotherapeutic, hormonal and immunologic treatment of malignant disease through multidisciplinary clinics and conferences. Research, elective rotations, interdisciplinary clinics, attendance to and participation in departmental conferences, and institutional lecture series comprise the curriculum. Residents are encouraged to present at national meetings, and the program supports two conferences per year. Residents are given protected time to attend and participate in dosimetry, physics, and radiobiology courses, and visiting professor days.
