The Yale New Haven Hospital/Yale University Orthopaedic program has a long tradition of training leaders in Orthopaedic Surgery. Recently, more Orthopaedic Chairs of training programs graduated from Yale than any program in the country. Graduates of the program have been president of the AAOS and the only Orthopaedic surgeon to serve as a US Senator, John Barrasso, M.D. Yale also has a distinguished legacy that embraces diversity in Orthopaedic education. The first African American woman Orthopaedist in the country, Claudia Thomas, M.D., graduated from Yale. This tradition of diversity continues as the program currently has 7 women and 6 African American residents of 25 total. The 28 Faculty members are fully committed to providing the highest quality education, with an emphasis on surgical experience and research with 3 dedicated research rotations within the residency to fulfill the program’s mission of producing the leaders of the next generation of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
