Redefine Inpatient Psychiatry—With a Role That Works for You

At Rochester Regional Health (RRH), we believe psychiatry is more than a specialty—it's a calling to provide compassionate, community-based care. We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrist to join our inpatient team at Rochester General Hospital in a full-time role structured as 50% inpatient psychiatry and 50% customizable clinical duties. Whether your passion lies in crisis intervention, outpatient continuity, or another focused area, we'll work with you to build a meaningful, sustainable career.

Position Overview: Full-Time | 1.0 FTE (50% Inpatient / 50% Customizable)

Inpatient Responsibilities (50%):

  • Provide care for a 12-bed unit (within a 29-bed facility), supported by a dedicated mid-level provider and a multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in daily treatment team meetings with a collaborative group including the medical director, nurse manager, and social workers.
  • Deliver acute psychiatric care in a modern, secure unit with 24/7 on-site security and access to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) services.
  • Maintain a manageable caseload with voluntary call opportunities available for additional compensation.

Customizable Clinical Component (50%):
The remaining 0.5 FTE will be tailored to the candidate's interests and may include:

  • CPEP (Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program) Coverage
  • Emergency Department Psychiatric Consultation at Rochester General Hospital
  • Outpatient Psychiatry Opportunities

There is also flexibility to incorporate other service areas or clinical focuses based on experience or preference. The goal is to design a role that aligns with both your clinical strengths and long-term interests, while meeting the system's evolving behavioral health needs.

Academic Environment
As a teaching hospital, Rochester General Hospital is home to the Rochester General Psychiatry Residency Program. Physicians have the opportunity—but not the obligation—to engage with residents and medical students in a variety of teaching and mentoring capacities. This environment fosters collaboration, continuous learning, and a strong academic foundation for those interested in contributing to the next generation of psychiatric clinicians.

Why Psychiatrists Thrive at RRH:
