  • The Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program is responsible for the overall direction of the Family Medicine Residency Program. This is a faculty position combines an emphasis on clinical teaching and outstanding administrative skills.

    Position Responsibilities

    The residency program director is responsible for the implementation of the program's mission, articulating the educational philosophy of the program, and curricular development. All family medicine residency program faculty members are accountable to the program director for their activities in residency education, including clinical supervision of residents. Most of the program director's time will be devoted to the administrative oversight and non-teaching duties of the program.

    • Responsible for selecting, recruiting and retaining residents who are committed to care for underserved populations, interested in academically rigorous training in an urban setting and meeting the needs of our diverse patient population

    Curriculum and Teaching

    Residents

    • Responsible for creating and maintaining an educational environment that protects resident safety, fosters their well-being, and nurtures their professionalism and responsibility
    • Develops and maintains an ongoing 360˚ evaluation system of residents (inclusive of faculty, peer, staff, and patient feedback and obtained through direct observation of patient care, chart review, panel management, and professional interactions)
    • Develops and performs timely evaluations of residents
    • Develops and maintains system to ensure residents' successful completion of program
    • Maintains a learning environment that is professional and provides residents with essential resources for their education (reference material, access to computers, and on-call facilities)

    • At least one-half day per week of primary care practice in the Family Health Center
    • Participates in the on-call faculty schedule for the clinical services of the Department

    Reporting Relationships

    The Residency Program Director:

    • Reports to and works collaboratively with the Chair, Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
    • Responsible to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC Designated Institutional Officer (DIO), Graduate Medical Education for issues that are institutional, or RRC-FM related
    • For administrative, fiscal and operational issues, reports to the Executive Administrator for Community Medicine Inc. (CMI)
    • Works collaboratively with UPMC McKeesport Hospital executive leadership team for hospital related matters

    The Residency Program Director supervises the:

    • Associate Program Director
    • Chief Residents in Family Medicine
    • Family Medicine Faculty
    • Family Medicine Resident

    Job Requirements

    • Specialty expertise in Family Medicine and at least three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience
    • Board Certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine or by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
    • ABMS and AOA Certification
    • Ongoing clinical activity with previous leadership experience
    • Unrestricted Pennsylvania Medical License
    • DEA certification
    • Accredited Family Medicine Residency Program completion
    • Medical Degree (MD/DO)
