The Advanced Practice Provider Fellow is a postgraduate position for Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant gaining experience and skill-set through a Critical Care fellowship. This role learns how to provide safe and therapeutic care in holistic and systemic way to include the assessment and overall management of care for critically ill patients under the supervision of a Physician.

Job Responsibilities

  • Completes clinical rotations and required clinical hours actively participating as a member of the care team under the supervision of an assigned, experienced preceptor
  • Attends scheduled didactic classes and clinical simulation labs as required
  • Participates in assigned case presentations, quality improvement projects, and participate in a variety of professional development and leadership opportunities
  • Independently and in collaboration with primary preceptor, physician(s) and interdisciplinary team members, performs high quality clinical practice and effective patient management by providing safe and competent care to patients
  • Demonstrates technical expertise by performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures independently as required
  • Demonstrates teamwork by communicating effectively and working cooperatively with all members of the health care team
  • Performs evaluation, admission, and management of critical care patients in a setting independent of an in house attending physician
  • Functions as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide quality patient care
  • Displays respect for and appreciation for the contribution from all team members in order to foster positive working relationships
  • Participates in quality and best practice initiatives by utilizing standards and guidelines for cost-effective care delivery in order to continuously improve patient care and enhance outcomes
  • Provides patient care and participates in the Fellowship in a style that encompasses the Inova Values
  • May perform additional duties as assigned

Additional Requirements

Certification - Basic Life Support upon start; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon startLicensure - Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)Experience - None required
Education - Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program, or a Bachelor's in Nursing and a Master's in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR a certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing
