The roles
Island Health is seeking pediatricians to join the teams in Campbell River, Comox Valley, Port Alberni, Nanaimo, and the Cowichan Valley. Find the best fit for your lifestyle and career aspirations!
Join a supportive team at Cowichan District Hospital which will open their new site in 2027! This new hospital is the first fossil fuel-free hospital in British Columbia and Canada’s first hospital to achieve Zero Carbon Building – Design™ certification from the Canada Green Building Council! The Pediatric Unit will have eight beds, four of which are safe spaces that can be used for a pediatric patient in a mental health crisis. This is double the pediatric beds in the current hospital.
At Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, join a team of eight colleagues and establish a consulting community practice with a 1:7 funded on-call schedule. The Nanaimo Hospital has a dedicated pediatric ward and new outpatient facility supported by a core team of pediatric nurses, dietician, diabetic nurse educator, and a full-time child life worker.
In Port Alberni, West Coast General Hospital is seeking full-time pediatricians to provide care for local pediatric patients and residents of First Nations communities in Ucluelet, Nitinat, Ahousaht and Opitsaht. Port Alberni has an average 300 births per year and the hospital provides a wide array of services to a regional population of 32,000.
At Comox Valley Hospital, the medical community is a collegial group of physicians who share common values of medical excellence and a balanced lifestyle. This hospital opened in 2017 and in addition to pediatrics, there are a broad range of consultants including internal medicine, intensive care, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, psychiatry, otolaryngology, radiology and family medicine.
Join the team in the beautiful oceanfront city of Campbell River. The Campbell River General Hospital has 100 beds, serves a referral population of over 300,000 and enjoys an exceptionally collegial atmosphere amongst family physicians and specialist colleagues. Campbell River has an average of 400 births per year and a Level I nursery (36 weeks or more). The successful candidate will share call (1:4).

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia posted bylaw amendments allowing physicians who have completed certain USA-based training and board certification to be eligible for licensure in the full class.
