Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority) is hiring addiction medicine family physicians to Victoria and Nanaimo, British Columbia. Join the teams in making a significant difference in patient’s lives.

The roles:

​

Find the best fit for your lifestyle and career aspirations! The Victoria Mental Health and Substance Use program are looking for an Addiction Medicine, Family Physician to provide part-time services at the Coastal Sage Health Centre. This centre is a 6-bed facility that provides services to women and people identifying as women, with problematic substance use, seeking residential treatment.

The successful candidate will work closely with other physician groups including; connecting with an in-house psychiatrist and liaising with hospital, maternity ward, community addiction clinics as needed for continuity of care and discharge planning.

In Nanaimo, join the team at the Nanaimo Mental Health and Substance Use program. This physician will provide part-time services with the Complex Care Housing team. Services will occur on site at three supportive housing locations in Nanaimo: Samaritan Place, Wesley Street and Prideaux Place. The patient population is complex, difficult to house individuals with moderate to severe mental health, substance use or chronic medical co-morbidities, behaviour problems, history of violence, hoarding (etc) in order to support individuals to retain housing.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia posted bylaw amendments allowing physicians who have completed certain USA-based training and board certification to be eligible for licensure in the full class.

To be eligible for the full – specialty class of licensure, applicants must have

1. completed Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) -accredited training, and
2. have certification with an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) member board.

To be eligible for the full – family class of licensure, applicants must have

1. completed family medicine training accredited by either the ACGME or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and
2. have certification with either the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP) or the American Board of Family Medicine.
