Cox Medical Center South is a 644-bed full-service acute care and surgical medical center that has served the Springfield area since 1985. Known as the "jewel of the Medical Mile," the facility offers spacious, private labor and delivery suites, a level III NICU with 28 private rooms and state-of-the-art perinatal intensive care.
OBHG Hospitalists who join our Cox South program enjoy comprehensive support including MFM consultations, back-up when needed and in-house anesthesia dedicated to obstetrics.
Located near the hospital, the Turner Center is home to the Springfield Women's Center, pediatrician offices, OB/GYN physician offices and a Pediatric Urgent Care.

What Does an OB/GYN Hospitalist Do?
- Caring for all pregnant women who present emergently, regardless of circumstance
- Cultivating relationships with staff nurses and hospital personnel
- Supporting private practice physicians by providing coverage and assistance
- Caring for unassigned patients
- Evaluating and treating triage patients
- Providing consultation to the ED
- Monitoring labor and Delivering babies
- Performing surgery and surgical assists
- Evaluating and treating postpartum patients
- Assisting with OB residents and medical student education
- Providing nurse support and education
- Participating in emergency drills and simulations
- Developing best practices
- Participating in clinical trials
- Facilitating daily interdisciplinary board rounds to improve patient safety
