Sentara Anesthesiology Specialists, a division of Sentara Medical Group, is recruiting a Director of Obstetric Anesthesia to join our team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a 525-bed tertiary care facility that is the flagship hospital of Sentara Healthcare in Hampton Roads and also serves as the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School. This will become an academic appointment with the commencement of our anesthesia residency program, currently anticipated to launch in 2028.
We are seeking a board certified, fellowship trained obstetric anesthesiologist with expertise in labor analgesia, anesthesia for cesarean deliveries, and management of high risk obstetric patients. Additionally, we are looking for a physician who is passionate about teaching, mentorship and academic medicine. This role not only offers the opportunity to work closely with obstetricians, neonatologists and exceptional nursing staff in a high volume, supportive environment, but also to shape the next generation of anesthesiologists.
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital offers state-of-the-art labor and delivery facilities and neonatal intensive care unit and supports a robust Maternal Fetal Medicine program. Over 3700 women a year deliver their babies at SNGH with an epidural placement rate of 92%, on average.
Additionally, SNGH offers a wide range of general, pediatric, gynecologic, orthopedic, plastic, podiatry, urology, and ENT surgeries and is the only Level 1 trauma center in southeastern Virginia. We’re proud to be recognized as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence. SNGH is also an accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center excelling in neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, urology, spine care, advanced imaging, behavioral health, and women’s care.
Sentara Anesthesiology Specialists is a premier group of highly trained anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) that serves more than 15,000 patients per year at area hospitals in Hampton Roads. All of our physicians are board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Our CRNAs are certified by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. We practice exclusively within the care team model and pride ourselves on our collegial relationships within our group, as well as those with our fellow physicians and staff.
