Position Summary
The provider will work within a small team at a local community hospital, supporting the physicians on staff, as well as working closely with Equum Medical's Tele-ICU Physicians.
Requirements
- Daytime shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Nights Covered by Tele-ICU
- Responsible for rounding on and managing 10-12 patients in a 16-bed ICU
- Minimum requirement of 14 shifts per month
- Active NJ medical license in good standing
- Valid DEA certification in good standing
- Previous critical care or acute care experience is preferred
- Must maintain compliance with all licensure and credentialing requirements
- Position is based in a hospital or healthcare setting with typical risks or discomforts, requiring adherence to standard safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities, Direct Patient Care:
- Provide bedside care for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), emergency department, and other acute care settings.
- Assess, diagnose, and manage complex medical conditions, including respiratory failure, sepsis, and multi-organ dysfunction.
- Initiate and manage life-saving interventions, including ventilator support, vasopressor therapy, and dialysis.
- Perform procedures such as central line insertions, arterial line placements, endotracheal intubation, and chest tube insertions as needed.
Collaborative Care:
- Work closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and specialists, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with family members, providing updates on patient status and prognosis, and addressing concerns and expectations.
Clinical Decision-Making:
- Make real-time decisions regarding critical care interventions, treatment adjustments, and monitoring protocols based on patient response and evolving clinical conditions.
- Interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., labs, imaging studies) and integrate findings into treatment plans.
Patient and Family Education:
- Provide education to patients and their families about critical illness, treatment options, and recovery expectations.
- Foster an empathetic and supportive environment, especially when discussing end-of-life decisions and advanced directives.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and medical interventions in the hospital’s electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and accreditation standards.
Quality Improvement and Safety:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety in the critical care unit.
- Contribute to hospital protocols, best practices, and evidence-based care guidelines.
- Identify and report safety concerns and participate in root cause analyses and action plans when needed.
Education
- Board Certified in Critical Care
