Located in the heart of West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle, the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) can be found on 175 acres in historic Berkeley County and has a service area of more than 70,000 Veterans in West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The Medical Center, part of the VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5), offers a comprehensive range of services, including internal medicine, ambulatory surgery, audiology and speech pathology, dental, nursing home, nutrition, podiatry, prosthetics, women's health, mental health and rehabilitation medicine. Patient care is provided through an integrated primary care concept, and each veteran is assigned to a team of health care providers that follows the patient's care both as an inpatient and an outpatient. Additional Compensation Details:

  1. Competitive Salary based on VHA Pay Scale
  2. Annual Performance Pay up to a max of $15,000.00.

  4. 50–55 paid days off annually, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and 5 days paid absence for CME.

  6. Annual reimbursement of CME expense to a max of $1,000.00.

We are seeking Board Eligible or Board-Certified in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine or Internal Medicine physicians with at least 2 years of experience working in ED.

Duties:

The physician working in ED must determine if a patient's symptoms may be caused by a serious medical condition. If a patient presents to the emergency department in distress, the emergency physician may be expected to do any of the following:

  1. Evaluation and treatment of the following body systems: skin, eye, ear, nose, throat, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urologic, reproductive, nervous, endocrine, musculoskeletal and hematology of patients in the Emergency Room.
  2. Perform invasive and non-invasive procedures in ED patients, based on the ED guidelines, such as emergency resuscitation, placing an intravenous line etc.
  3. Initial and ongoing assessment of patients' medical, physical, and psychosocial status.
  4. Obtain and document a comprehensive medical and psychological history and physical examination. Order appropriate diagnostic tests, interpret laboratory studies and take appropriate action.

  5. Taking whatever steps are necessary to stabilize the patient for transport to another area of the hospital or transport to another hospital.

Work Schedule: Rotating schedule of 8-hour shifts /7 days / 24 hours to complete 80 hours per PP (every 2 weeks).
