Practice Setting
- Inpatient hospitalist coverage in a rural environment
- Average daily census around 14
- General adult and pediatric medicine, must be comfortable with all ages
- ED uses transition orders for overnight admissions (11 PM–6 AM)
Schedule
- 24-hour shifts running noon-to-noon
- Typically 12–15 hours on-site, with the remaining hours primarily call
- Informal evening rounds are encouraged (around 9 PM–10 PM)
- Solo coverage model during the shift
Cases and Procedures
- General adult and pediatric hospital medicine, including emergent cases
- Vent management
- Central lines, lumbar puncture, paracentesis/thoracentesis
- Intubations (must be proficient)
Requirements
- Must be an MD/DO
- Board Certified (Hospital Medicine CAQ)
- An active Maine license is required (the facility will not wait for a license)
- PALS required
