Gastroenterologist Role Overview:
The Gastroenterologist provides comprehensive gastroenterological care services to veterans, ensuring continuity of care within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Reporting to the Chief of Medicine, the provider is a key clinical member within the medical center.
The provider will be responsible for the assessment and care of new and returning patients with gastrointestinal conditions. Responsibilities include performing endoscopic procedures, consultations, and follow-up care, both for inpatients and outpatients. The provider will also participate in multidisciplinary team conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and educational activities.
Responsibilities Include:
Veteran-Centered Care:
- Deliver comprehensive gastroenterological services with an emphasis on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education, and management of gastrointestinal disorders.
- Promote shared decision-making with veterans and their families to achieve optimal health outcomes.
Clinical Excellence:
- Perform endoscopic procedures, including but not limited to, colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, and ERCPs.
- Manage preoperative and postoperative care for gastrointestinal patients.
- Conduct outpatient gastroenterology clinics and provide inpatient consultations as needed.
Quality Improvement:
- Participate in continuous quality improvement projects to enhance the delivery of care.
- Utilize various quality measurement tools to monitor and improve clinical performance and patient outcomes.
Clinical Leadership:
- Serve as a mentor and role model for other healthcare providers within the gastroenterology team.
- Engage in educational activities, providing guidance and support to residents, students, and other trainees.
Healthcare Coordination:
- Coordinate care for veterans involving specialty care, mental health services, and other ancillary services to ensure comprehensive healthcare delivery.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers to develop individualized treatment plans for veterans.
