MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Orthopedic Surgery Center (OSC) is seeking a full-time Anesthesiologist to serve as the Associate Medical Director for the new center.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the inaugural team launching the new OSC in early 2027. Located in the greater Portland market, this new freestanding OSC will be part of a new, fully integrated Orthopedic Campus. A destination location for Northern New England, the new OSC will have 4 operating rooms and two procedure rooms and will treat a variety of ambulatory orthopedic patients, including joints, sports medicine, and other needs. Tasked with helping develop the anesthesia model and team, this position will be an integral part of the broader OSC care team.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Education: Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.

· Experience:

· Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center environment

· Preferred: Previous leadership experience of an Ambulatory Surgery Center

· Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

· Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

· Expertise in quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practices.

· In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, patient care standards, and hospital operations.

· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement practical solutions in a high-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Leadership:

· Partner with the OSC Medical Director, Nursing Director, and Administrator to lead the administrative and clinical operations of the OSC.

· Provide clinical leadership and support to the OSC Anesthesiology Team.

· Assist in overseeing patient care standards and protocols to ensure the highest quality of care and safety.

· Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes and make recommendations for clinical improvements.

  1. Quality Improvement & Patient Safety:

· Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.

  1. Operational Support:

· Assist in the day-to-day management of the OSC, ensuring smooth operations and efficient patient flow.

· Work with OSC leadership to optimize staffing, resource allocation, and capacity planning.

· Support the implementation of departmental policies and procedures.

  1. Staff Development & Mentorship:

· Mentor and support the professional development of OSC physicians and other clinical staff.

· Assist in recruitment, orientation, and onboarding of new OSC providers.

· Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous learning within the department.

  1. Collaboration & Communication:

· Foster open communication and collaboration between OSC surgeons, nursing, administration, and other specialties.

· Work with hospital leadership to address challenges, propose solutions, and implement changes in the OSC.
