Job Summary:

The Department of Surgery is seeking a dynamic, innovative Cardiothoracic Surgeon who has the leadership and vision to contribute to and build upon the state-of-the-art clinical and research programs at UW Health. Candidates with track record of success in maintaining an independent clinical practice with a specialization in aortic-related diseases are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be a critical team member and partner within the Section of Adult Cardiac Surgery within the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin includes 11 full-time academic faculty who provide a unique multidisciplinary approach to the study, evaluation, and treatment of acquired and congenital cardiovascular and thoracic diseases, including heart and lung transplantation as well as benign and malignant disorders of the thorax. The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery has robust support from 22 APP, 14 certified perfusionists, 3 full-time data managers and a physician-scientist.

The Division proudly provides excellent clinical care across the spectrum of adult and pediatric cardiovascular and thoracic disease. The three sections of the Division include Adult Cardiac Surgery, Congenital Heart Surgery, which treats patients of all ages, and General Thoracic Surgery. Education within the Division includes a commitment to medical students and General Surgery residents and an ACGME-approved traditional three-year Cardiothoracic residency. The Division also offers a non-accredited fellowship in Thoracic Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support.

The UW Department of Surgery consists of more than 160 faculty across eleven specialty divisions, performing more than 25,000 operations annually. The Department also trains more than 70 residents and fellows and is consistently ranked amongst the top surgery programs with extramural research funding, currently 7th in the nation according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The department provides a robust infrastructure of services including academic resources such as The Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), which provides support, resources, and a collaborative environment to facilitate surgical health services research at the University of Wisconsin.

Qualifications:

Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.

For appointment at Clinical Associate Professor, Associate Professor (CHS), Clinical Professor, or Professor (CHS) rank on either the CT or CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to (Clinical) Associate or (Clinical) Professor on the relevant (CHS or CT) Track.

Board certification or board eligibility from the American Board of Thoracic Surgery is required by the appointment start date.
