Job Duties:
The [Division of Transplantation][1] in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking an experienced abdominal organ transplant surgeon to serve as Surgical Director of the UW Health Kidney Transplant Program within the UW Health Transplant Center. We perform, on average, 290 kidney transplants including 90 living donor kidney transplants, and 33 pancreas transplants per year.
We are looking for candidates with training completion from an ASTS certified abdominal organ transplant program with specified training completion in kidney and pancreas transplantation, and laparoscopic donor nephrectomies. Candidates should also have a track record of clinical excellence, programmatic leadership experience, and academic contributions as demonstrated through previous practice or training. The successful candidate will have experience at a large volume kidney transplant program, with both deceased donor and living donor transplants, as well as experience with national paired kidney exchange transplants.
- Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, Visiting Associate Professor, or Visiting Professor, on the Clinical Health Science (CHS) track.
- This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
- This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
Key Job Responsibilities:

Clinical: Kidney and pancreas transplantation and living donor laparoscopic nephrectomy.
- Service and Teaching: Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.

An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Research: Opportunity to maintain a research program (e.g., basic and translational, outcomes or health services research).
- Leadership: Serve as Surgical Director of the UW Health Kidney Transplant Program.
Required Qualifications:
- Wisconsin Medical License by appointment start date.
- Board certification or Board Eligible in Surgery by the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent by the appointment start date
- Completion of an ASTS approved transplant surgery fellowship by the appointment start date.
- Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges, by appointment start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.
Education:
- MD or DO, or equivalent required
