Washington University in St. Louis (WashU Medicine) is seeking a board‑eligible or board‑certified physician to serve as Medical Director of Pediatric Sleep Medicine. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. This leadership role offers the opportunity to guide a growing, AASM‑accredited pediatric sleep program within one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers.

Program Overview

The Pediatric Sleep Medicine Program provides comprehensive clinical services at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Missouri Baptist Medical Center. The program currently operates 12 pediatric polysomnography beds and is undergoing a planned expansion to 16 sleep study rooms across the region to meet increasing demand for sleep evaluations in patients from infancy through adolescence.

The Medical Director will join a collaborative team of three pediatric sleep medicine specialists and play a key role in shaping clinical operations, quality initiatives, and program growth.

Clinical Program Highlights

  • AASM‑accredited pediatric sleep program
  • Annual volume of 1,200–1,500 sleep studies, projected to increase to ~2,500 with expansion
  • Advanced sleep study technology enabling polysomnography and full electroencephalogram EEG when indicated
  • Capacity to perform up to 4 inpatient bedside studies for medically complex children
  • Patient population includes newborns, children, and adolescents

Candidates who are dual board‑eligible or board‑certified in Pediatric Pulmonology may also participate in pulmonology clinical services.

Academic Responsibilities

The Medical Director will have opportunities to contribute to the department’s academic mission through:

  • Teaching pediatric sleep fellows, residents, and medical students
  • Participation in research and scholarly activities
  • Engagement in multicenter collaborative research networks
  • Mentorship within a highly respected academic environment

  • 10,000+ outpatient visits annually across five locations
  • Approximately 25% new patient referrals
  • 7,000+ inpatient patient‑days per year at St. Louis Children’s Hospital

Faculty members are nationally prominent through leadership roles in professional societies, high‑impact publications, and innovative basic, translational, and clinical research focused on childhood lung diseases and asthma.
