Overview of Dr. Roman
Dr. Benjamin Roman is an otolaryngologist based in New York, NY, with subspecialties in head and neck, thyroid, and oncologic surgery. He completed his medical education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and his training in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in surgical oncology and microvascular reconstruction. He also holds a degree in philosophy from Princeton University, along with a fellowship and a master's degree in health policy and outcomes. Since 2015, he has been an Attending Surgeon at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His work and research focus on diagnostics, medical decision-making, 2nd opinions and cost savings, de-escalation, thyroidectomy, health services research, behavioral economics, and health system strategy and innovation. Dr. Roman has published extensively on related topics, including the influence of emotions on treatment decisions and the clinical value of second opinions in oncology. He is involved in clinical trials concerning decision-making and psychological outcomes in low-risk papillary thyroid cancer. In 2026 he is transitioning out of Memorial Sloan Kettering to pursue something new.
