Summary
- I am board-certified in surgery and fellowship-trained in surgical oncology. My clinical interests include treatment of pancreatic cancer and tumors of the endocrine system (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors). My interests include translational laboratory research in the biology of pancreatic cancer and in clinical trial development. I have completed a number of investigator-initiated clinical trials, including a National Cancer Institute Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (NIH P20 SPORE) pancreatic cancer grant. At M. D. Anderson, my endocrine surgery group worked extensively on the genotype-phenotype correlations in multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes and were the first to define the role for ultrasound in the preoperative management of patients with thyroid cancer.
My major interest in clinical and laboratory research involves the study of pancreatic cancer to include clinical staging, novel treatment sequencing, advanced surgical techniques, translational laboratory studies, clinical trial development, and more recently, molecular profiling to direct cancer treatment. It is my passion to define better, more effective treatments for pancreas cancer by working in a collaborative setting with the input of a diverse team of scientists, physicians and support staff. By utilizing the clinical and laboratory expertise of the entire team to treat pancreas cancer, we hope to take emerging discoveries in the laboratory into the clinical trial arena.
