Summary

  • My name is Emily Smith. I'm a Columbia, SC native. I graduated from Newberry College in 2013 with my BSN, followed by a Master's of Science in Nursing with an emphasis on Family Practice/Primary Care in December of 2018. I have recently been certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). I am licensed as an APRN in the state of South Carolina. I am enthusiastically in search of my first job as an advanced practice provider. My primary professional interest is women's health.

My prior work experience includes 6+ years at the bedside as a registered nurse in the acute care sector. I have spent the past 2.5+ years working on an inpatient High Risk Antepartum/Postpartum/GYN unit at a Regional Perinatal Center in Columbia, SC.

I hope to continue to service the healthcare needs of women across the lifespan as I grow in my practice as a Nurse Practitioner. I believe strongly in providing care that is academically driven, evidence based and most importantly, compassionate and sensitive to the individual and varied physiological and psychosocial needs of my patient(s). My ideal practice setting would be working in OB/GYN or Maternal Fetal Medicine.

As a FNP, it is within my scope of practice to provide holistic women's health services, including comprehensive perinatal care up until the intrapartum period. Additionally, a FNP may be trained to render a number of billable services relevant to OB/GYN, e.g. endometrial biopsy, the insertion and removal of long acting reversible contraception (LARC), colposcopy, etc.

I am an eager and self-motivated young professional. I welcome the opportunity to learn new skills. I will make a meaningful contribution to my future practice site as a collaborating provider. Although I am new to my role as a practitioner, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from my time serving a diverse, clinically complex and high acuity women's population at an academic medical center.
