Summary

  • Francis Sutter, DO serves as campus Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Lankenau Medical Center, part of Main Line Health in Philadelphia, PA. It is a leadership role he has served since 2001. Dr. Sutter is dedicated to advancing surgical treatment of coronary artery disease, specializing in minimally invasive robotic coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Dr. Sutter’s interest in minimally invasive cardiac surgery began as early as 1997. Since 2005, he has performed—with support from a dedicated cardiac surgical team—more than 2300 robotic coronary bypass procedures, with excellent outcomes. He performs the most advanced techniques available for treating patients with complex coronary disease, including robotic CABG surgery, hybrid revascularization for multivessel CAD, and off-pump ("beating heart") CABG surgery. More than 50 percent of all cardiac artery bypass procedures at Lankenau Medical Center over the past 10+ years have been performed robotically.

Dr. Sutter is Clinical Professor of Surgery, Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. He has significant experience in the field of robotic coronary surgery and has provided training for surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals both nationally and internationally for almost 30 years. They come to learn the beating-heart technique as well the robotic-assisted approach. In addition, Dr. Sutter has presented his pioneering methods to cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists and anesthesiologists across the globe.

In 2018, Dr. Sutter received the O.J. Snyder Memorial Medal, recognizing leadership and service to the osteopathic profession and to the institution, the highest award offered by PCOM. In 2006, he received the Roland Holroyd Award presented to a distinguished physician and graduate of LaSalle University, Philadelphia.
