Summary
- Dr. Bencheqroun is a native of Morocco. He graduated from medical school and came to the United States to train in the fields of internal medicine, lung diseases and critical care.
“Shortly before defending my thesis and graduating from medical school, I was involved in a car accident which nearly claimed my life,” says Dr. Bencheqroun. “Through the days that followed, I was introduced to what it means to wear the patient’s hat, feel the pain, experience the pity in people’s eyes, ask for help, and wait every day for my doctors’ visits to tell me what’s next. That experience would forever affect the way I would treat my patients and their families.”
Dr. Bencheqroun trained for internal medicine at the SUNY-affiliated Wilson Memorial Hospital in upstate New York. He then chose Tufts University School of Medicine affiliate St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, for specialization in critical care, as well as, in lung diseases.
Dr. Bencheqroun further underwent specialized training in interventional pulmonology at Harvard University, Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston, in the interventional pulmonary disease field, in state-of-the-art minimally invasive lung disease procedures and surgery, in the fields of lung cancer diagnosis and staging, diagnosing airway obstructions and treating them with minimally invasive technology, and right heart catheterizations for the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension.
Dr. Bencheqroun was awarded the Patient’ Choice Award for several consecutive years, and has been serving on the Leadership of the American College of CHEST physicians, and the Board of the National Arab American Medical Association NAAMA (San Diego Chapter).
