Summary
- Experience Summary
James is a board-certified colorectal surgeon with a specific emphasis on minimally invasive techniques. The mission of his practice is to leverage his academic, research and clinical interests to provide innovative surgical care. James has an active research laboratory and was an early adaptor of laparoscopic colorectal procedures beginning in mid-2000. He was the first to perform combined endo-laparoscopic surgery (CELS) on the West Coast. This is a novel technique used to remove benign polyps that are not removeable with standard endoscopic procedures and would typically require a bowel resection.
James was recruited by Brigham Women’s Hospital (Boston, MA) in 2019. His clinical practice and research focuses on colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. He remains interested in developing novel approaches for less invasive procedures and to promote faster patient recovery. James is also the Associate editor for the Journal of Surgical Research to which he contributes his findings and experience helping the medical field further innovative techniques.
