- Dr. Shehebar is a dual Board Certified surgeon who specializes in Colon and Rectal Surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology at New York University and then went on to obtain his medical degree from Sackler School of Medicine of Tel Aviv University. Dr. Shehebar subsequently completed his General Surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center/ Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY.
Dr. Shehebar then continued his training with a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He obtained a highly specialized skill set in the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus and received training in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques.
Dr. Shehebar is actively involved in the training of General Surgery residents at NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn. His clinical and research interests include the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticulitis, advanced colon and rectal cancers, and complex anorectal diseases, and approaches all in a minimally invasive fashion. He performs screening and therapeutic colonoscopies as well. Dr. Shehebar has contributed to several peer-reviewed articles and has authored several chapters in well known medical textbooks on gastrointestinal disorders.
Dr. Shehebar is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and a member of the New York Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
