He completed multiple residencies: in radiation oncology at Penrose-St Francis Health Services, and at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics from 1971 to 1973, as well as in pediatrics from 1973 to 1974. He served as a radiation oncologist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 1974 to 1976, and then worked a year in academic medicine and then with two private practice groups from 1977 to 2014. Since 2015 he has been doing exclusively locum tenens work, mainly in the Midwest.
