Summary
- I believe that image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) will produce a revolution in the way we manage cancer patients because of its ability for normal organs sparing and potential for radiation dose escalation. Our preliminary research experience at the University of Arizona has been very encouraging and I plan to promote this technique for the care of elderly cancer patients. We will conduct prospective randomized studies for elderly cancer patients through our research organization, the International Geriatric Radiotherapy Group (IGRG) (http://www.igrg.org) to demonstrate that chronological age is not a reason to deny curative treatment.
