Summary

  • This practice addresses the triad of disorders of inadequate oxygenation during sleep (obstructive sleep apnea - OSA), parasomnias, mood disorders and problems achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight.

CPAP intolerant patients are treated with custom oral appliances (OA). An orthotic that advances the mandible thus increasing the diameter of the airway. The FDA approves these orthotics for use in patients with Apnea in the “severe” range. If needed, CPAP can be added if additional pressure is required to normalize oxygen saturation. Options for freedom from CPAP, straps, masks that leak or are uncomfortable, sanitizing masks and hoses have made OA therapy an important alternative to CPAP.

Sleep related behavioral disorders are evaluated and treated.

Weight disorders cause an excess of negative outcomes in multiple medical arenas. Poor self esteem, nutritional status, joint damage and sleep disorders are issues addressed and treated. Anorexics are prescribed if there are no contraindications that would preclude treatment.

Treatment of depression and anxiety provide symptom relief and reduce mood altering with food episodes..
