Summary
- Dr. Samuel Sondalle is a Yale-trained child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist in private practice in New Haven, Connecticut. He is double board-certified in general psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His work is guided by curiosity, empathy, and a thoughtful effort to understand each person in the context of their life and relationships.
Originally from rural Wisconsin and the first in his family to attend college, Dr. Sondalle studied Biology and Chemistry at Ripon College before completing combined M.D. and Ph.D. training in the Medical Scientist Training Program at the Yale University School of Medicine. His doctoral research in Genetics examined how cells build ribosomes—the molecular engines that produce proteins—and how disruptions in this process cause human disease.
Dr. Sondalle completed his general psychiatry residency and child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Yale as part of the Albert J. Solnit Integrated Program, serving as co-chief fellow in his final year. His training included work at the West Haven Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Yale Health’s Mental Health and Counseling department, where he cared for patients across a range of ages and backgrounds.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Sondalle draws from psychodynamic and humanistic traditions to help patients understand themselves more deeply, address emotional and relational difficulties, and work toward lasting change. His interests include psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychodynamic psychopharmacology, and integrative approaches to understanding mental health.
