He relocated to Sun Valley, Idaho in 1998 after having served in the United States Navy for 27 years. He has served as Chief of Surgery, Chief of Staff at SLWRMC and is a past member of the SLWRMC Board of Directors for 16 years. He specializes in orthopaedic sports medicine and orthopaedic trauma and is experienced in shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle traumatology and sports injuries. He has had numerous leadership and/or committee roles in various professional societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Society of Medical Consultants to the Armed Forces, and the International Intradiscal Therapy Society. His academic appointments are Professor of Surgery, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine. Still maintaining an interest in the military, Dr. Alexander has served as a Blue and Gold Officer for the United States Naval Academy since 2006.
