Summary

  • I am a Board-Certified Family Physician with extensive medical legal experience. I have served as a Family Medicine expert for over 20 years. I have reviewed hundreds of cases during that time, provided over 25 deposition testimonies and testified in over 10 jury trials in medical liability cases. The majority (90%) of my work has been as a defense expert, but in the last 5 years more and more plaintiff attorneys have sought out my services.

I have practiced full-time, comprehensive Family Medicine in rural Utah for over 30 years. As a rural physician I care for patient from birth through death, pediatric, adolescent and adult care. I am primarily office based, but provide obstetric care, including cesarean deliveries, hospital medicine in our 20-bed Critical Access Hospital for lower acuity acute admissions, endoscopic procedures including screening and diagnostic colonoscopy and EGD, and surgical procedures including hernia repair, breast biopsy, tonsillectomy, myringotomy with tubes, and GYN laparoscopy. Additionally, I have provided services as the attending physician in our Trauma 4/Emergency Department for over 25 years.

I was educated at the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy in 1984 (I am a Registered Pharmacist), followed by receiving my MD Degree at the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1988, and completed a Residency in Family Medicine at the McKay-Dee Family Medicine Residency program in Ogden, Utah in 1991. I have been in a private Family Medicine practice in Delta, Utah since that time.

I have been the medical director of the local 60-bed Skilled Nursing/Long Term Care Facility for 30 years, where I am the personal physician for about half of the residents.

Additionally, I am the current chairman of the Utah Physician and Surgeon Licensing Board. Our role is supervision and disciplining of physicians for ethics violations, substance misuse, and quality of care concerns for the Utah Department of Professional Licensing.
