He completed his residency in psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia Campus)/New York State Psychiatric Institute in 2004, followed by a schizophrenia research fellowship at Columbia University/NYSPI from 2004 to 2007. He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from Stony Brook University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 2000. Dranovsky serves as an Associate Professor at Columbia University Irving Medical Center since 2020 and as Psychiatrist 2 at New York State Psychiatric Institute since 2010. He is the Director for the Cognition and Psychosis program in the department of Psychiatry. His also directs a basic neuroscience research program focused on studying neuromodulatory control of brain functions with an emphasis on understanding how stress causes long lasting changes related to mental health.
